Follicular Unit Extraction (Fue)
THE ALPHA FUE HAIR Transplant TECHNIQUE
Follicular Unit Extraction utilizes the most advanced surgical hair restoration technologies available on the market today. The Alpha FUE Technique in Edmonton removes your own robust hair follicles from healthy donor sites on your scalp (most typically found on the back or sides of the head) and transplants them to the balding areas of the head or other desired body parts.
The desired hairline is designed, and individual grafts are strategically placed to promote hair restoration and regrowth that looks natural. Unlike other surgical methods, the Alpha Technique does not leave visible linear scaring and delivers the results you dream of with minimal discomfort and downtime.
At the Alpha Clinic in Edmonton, our number one priority is the patient experience for our clients. Older hair transplant techniques have existed for some time, such as the strip method or Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), and these techniques are still used today. However, recovery using these methods is slow and painful and leaves you with visible scars from the transplantation incision. With FUT there is also a higher risk of infection. FUE on the other hand, provides our clients with a highly effective solution that is less invasive and leaves areas where the hair follicle extraction occurred healing within a few short days and usually undetectable by others. That is the Alpha way!
THE ALPHA FUE PROCESS
The Initial Consultation
Before deciding if the FUE Hair Transplant is right for you, it’s important to understand how the procedure itself works, what to consider beforehand, what to expect during the procedure, and finally, when you will begin seeing results.
To begin the process, we will set up a complimentary consultation with you and our team of experts. Leading the team is Dr. Zaki Taher, who will assess your medical history and perform an evaluation of your scalp or another desired area for hair restoration before outlining a strategic treatment plan that is right for you. The number of hair grafts needed for an effective outcome and natural-looking results will be determined, keeping your goals in mind.
Once your custom hair loss treatment plan has been designed and you have given your approval to move forward, your FUE hair trasnplant procedure will be booked and further instructions will be given to you on how to prepare for it at the time.
You’ve made it! Today is the day you take the step towards your hair restoration, and it’s the Alpha Clinic’s promise to you to make the procedure as easy and pain-free as possible. Upon your arrival to our clinic, you will be given the breakdown of the procedure one final time. Once you approve and are ready to move forward, we will begin.
The process will begin with a mild sedation to help you relax and feel as little as possible throughout the procedure. Arrangements for your transportation home must be made in advance. We will then shave a small area at the back or sides of the head. The spot will be a healthy donor site and consideration will be made to allow you to hide the spot after the procedure is complete, if possible.
Next, the area where the hair will be implanted will be prepared and anesthetic will be applied to numb the area. Our team will then remove the grafts from the donor site gently, using the SmartGraft device. This device allows us to collect the grafts, count, sort and then store them in a hydrated environment that is temperature controlled. This process will promote the survival of each graft used in the implanting process and improves their ability to regrow for the best results.
Once all the grafts have been collected, our team will then utilize the Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) technique, which is commonly used in advanced Turkish hair transplants. DHI is designed to extract healthy hair follicles from a donor site and implant these follicles directly into the targeted area, through use of specially designed implanter pens. DHI is designed to be safe, minimize pain, and offers a minimally invasive single step in the implantation process, while delivering natural looking results with high volumes and density.
This procedure is highly effective for both men and women, targeting general hair restorations. The treatment is also extremely useful in targeting areas with a special emphasis on:
At the Alpha Clinic, we have selected the most state-of-the-art implanter pen available on the market today, the Choi Pen.The innovative Choi Pen works by implanting the carefully selected grafts that were extracted and directly places them in the desired region. Hair loss specialists at the Alpha Clinic in Edmonton can load the extracted grafts onto the needle and carefully implant them at a depth, angle and direction that is appropriate and leads to natural looking results. Your follicles are injected one by one, having been extracted strategically and implanted even more strategically.
After the Procedure
Our SmartGraft FUE procedure takes on average 9-12 hours to complete, although some procedures can take less time. This mainly depends on the number of grafts that a client will require to achieve their desired results. We do require patients to arrange transportation back home.
In most cases, patients can return to work and resume full activities 2-3 days after their procedure, as well as engage in their fitness regimens and sports activities in a few short days afterwards. It is rare for evidence of the transplant to go noticed within a week after the procedure, meaning few people will be able to detect you underwent the procedure due to very minimal scarring.
What to Expect
BENEFITS OF THE FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDURE
A completely natural look. By strategically placing your own hair to fill the balding spots, results are healthy and natural looking. Your hair will grow completely in a period of 9 months to a year.
Minimal scarring. Utilizing SmartGraft technology, we ensure minimal scarring since we are not removing large strips of hair which other surgical procedures require. We use individual micro-grafts to make certain no linear scarring occurs.
A single, in-office procedure. Because your hair grafts are expertly harvested, the procedure typically lasts 9-12 hours although it can be less.
Minimal downtime. Recovery is short and there is no real interruption in your day to day lifestyle as the procedure is minimally invasive. You can resume activities within 2-3 days post-procedure.
Not gender specific. Women also face hair thinning and this procedure is ideal for both men and women of all hair types.
More transplant options. The procedure is not just for the head. This procedure can solve permanent hair loss in other areas (body & facial hair, eyebrows).
